About my services
Firstly I will carry out an initial assessment with your child. This would normally be one hour but could be shorter or longer depending on how in depth it needs to be. This can be done at your own home, or in your child's school or preschool.
Follow up therapy sessions can be arranged at your own home or in your child's school/ preschool. I am keen to work with education staff to provide informal training and to maximise carry-over of your child's targets. After observing therapy sessions and discussing the activities, Learning Support Assistants and Teaching Assistants are then able to repeat activities during the school week. This would obviously take place following agreement with your child's preschool or school.
As parents, you will also be encouraged to observe therapy sessions if taking place at home so that you are then able to repeat homework activities with your child. Extra practise in-between sessions is necessary in order to ensure that your child gets the full benefit from his or her therapy.
Terms & Conditions
Location of sessions
I am based in Clun, Shropshire and happy to travel within a 25 mile radius. Costs will include travel which is charged at 45p per mile. Longer distances can also be agreed providing re-imbursement of travel costs is included.

Initial assessments will generally be offered in your own home so your child can be assessed and observed in familiar surroundings. I would ask that you provide a quiet room to work in with a table, away from distractions such as the TV where possible. Follow up sessions will take place either at your home or in your child's school/ preschool.

Length and frequency of blocks of therapy
A standard block of therapy is 6 - 8 sessions, although shorter or longer blocks can be agreed. Your child can be reviewed after a break and a further block arranged if required.
Report writing
A full written report can be provided at your request following an initial assessment or at the end of a block of therapy. An additional fee will be incurred for the time taken writing the report.
Working hours
I provide sessions between 9 am and 4 pm. If you wish to discuss the possibility of arranging sessions outside these hours please contact me by email or telephone.
Role of the parent/ carer
It is expected that you are present during therapy sessions in order to observe the activities so that they can be repeated in-between appointments. If sessions take place in school or preschool then they will be observed and repeated by your child's Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant. Please provide copies of any reports from other professionals to help the therapist understand your child's needs better, eg Educational Psychology, Occupational Therapy, previous Speech and Language Therapy reports.
Sharing information with other professionals
It is in your child's best interest that I liaise with any other professionals involved. Therefore with your consent, reports and therapy aims will be shared accordingly. No information will be disclosed without your knowledge and consent. It is particularly important that you let me know if your child has been assessed by another Speech and Language Therapist within the last 6 months so that formal assessments are not duplicated. If your child is involved with an NHS Speech and Language Therapist, I will inform them of my involvement and aim to work collaboratively. All written reports sent electronically are password protected.
Fees
Fees not only cover the contact time with you and your child but also liaison, record keeping, session planning and preparation of resources. All fees are agreed prior to the start of therapy. After initial assessment you will be able to decide whether or not you wish to go ahead with a block of therapy (assuming this is found to be appropriate).

If I am unwell or unable to attend a session I will offer a replacement one as soon as possible.
If you choose to withdraw your child from therapy at least a week's notice would be appreciated.
